Floor insulation

With an estimated 8% of a home’s heating lost through the floor, insulating under the floorboards on your ground floor could save around £60 a year.

Most effective in rooms suspended over unheated spaces, if you live on the ground floor or have rooms above an unheated room, such as a garage, concentrate on retaining the heat in those.

Use a registered installer to place mineral wool insulation underneath your floorboards, or on top of a concrete floor. To help further retain heat, exclude the draughts between floors and skirting boards using sealant strips or putty.
