Cold Weather Payment Scheme

A government grant given to qualifying households during cold weather, this grant is only payable when the temperature falls below, or is forecast to fall below, 0°C for seven consecutive days.

The Cold Weather Payment scheme runs from 1 November 2016 to 31 March 2017.

Recipients will get a payment of £25 for each seven-day period of very cold weather between 1 November 2016 and 31 March 2017.

Who is eligible for Cold Weather Payments?

You may get Cold Weather Payments if you already receive:

  • Pension Credit
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Universal Credit

How can I apply for Cold Weather Payments?

You don’t need to apply if you’re eligible to receive Cold Weather Payments you don’t need to make a claim. It will automatically be paid into the account you have registered for benefits payments.

In addition, you can also apply for the Warm Home Discount Scheme. Check on gov.uk if you qualify.
